JAMES GORICK conductor
‘FOR MUSICK'S ART'
Always popular at NNMF, Floreat Sonus return for the third time together with their charismatic conductor, James Gorick.
Thomas Tallis, Christopher Tye and John Taverner were direct contemporaries. Each held prestigious appointments in London, Oxford, Cambridge and Ely and were no strangers to the royal courts, the volatile politics and the ever-changing monarchy of 16th century England. Tye and Tallis adapted their compositional style to suit the whims of the reigning monarch. John Taverner’s compositional style hints at the florid style of the earlier composers of the Eton Choir Book. This programme, which features cunningly crafted and sumptuous works by the three composers, is built around Tye’s six voice masterpiece ‘Missa Euge Bone’ and includes Tallis’s ‘The Lamentations of Jeremiah.’
