HILARY SUMMERS contralto
ANDREW WEST piano
Pleasures on a Summer Afternoon
Songs by QUILTER, PURCELL, FINZI, PUCINI, BERNSTEIN and MOZART
Hilary Summers is one of the most versatile singers of her generation. Her three-octave range has won her many admirers from the public and other musicians alike and has taken her to concert halls and opera houses around the globe.
Andrew West has worked with many leading singers including Mark Padmore, Florian Boesch, Christopher Purves and Hilary Summers and often performs in recital with distinguished chamber musicians. He is Director of the Nuremberg Chamber Music Festival and teaches at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
Together they have created a most original programme in which they explore addictions and sensuous pleasures – of all kinds! Songs by Quilter, Purcell, Finzi, a wry look at Puccini’s heroines (from a contralto’s point of view!), Leonard Bernstein (whose centenary it is this year) and a tour de force in which Hilary will tackle all the roles from Die Zauberflöte by Mozart.
