PIATTI STRING QUARTET
HAYDN String Quartet in C Op.33 No.3 ‘The Bird’
WALTON String Quartet No.2 in A minor
BRAHMS String Quartet in A minor Op.51 No.2
Prize-winners at the 2015 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, the Piatti Quartet is among the UK's foremost young ensembles with a host of awards and critically-acclaimed recordings to its name. The Sunday Times review praised their playing as 'sumptuous' and 'exhilarating...in its combination of vibrancy and formal rigour'.
The Piatti’s programme has at its centre the haunting and passionate second string quartet of Sir William Walton, the second major work of his in the Festival (see ‘Façade’ on 16 August). This is framed by Haydn’s delightful ‘Bird’ quartet and by Brahms’s A minor quartet renowned for its dramatic Hungarian czárdás finale.
