Since their debut appearance in South Creake two years ago the Castalian Quartet has become increasingly well known internationally. In 2018 they received the inaugural MERITO String Quartet Award & Valentin Erben Prize and also won a Borletti-BuitoniTrust Fellowship Award. This season the Quartet will tour North America and many European countries as well as appearing regularly at Wigmore Hall. They also return to
Snape Maltings and Saffron Hall.
Bjørg Lewis is one of Norway’s most admired cellists. On hearing her perform, Rostropovich invited her to be his student and commented that “Norway need not fear its musical future having heard a cellist such as Bjørg.” She is a member of theVertavo String Quartet and a professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. 6.45 PM FESTIVAL MAR
In their first concert the Castalian will give us the rare chance to hear Fanny Mendelssohn’s beautiful string quartet.
