from the roots of choral singing to the flowering of a tradition Works by Carlo GESUALDO, William BYRD, Hildegard von BINGEN, ThomasTALLIS, Arvo PÄRT and others.
The Gesualdo Six brings together six of the finest young consort singers in the country. The group gave their first performance under the direction of Owain Park in the chapel at Trinity College, Cambridge on Maundy Thursday 2014. Since then they have given performances throughout the UK and in Europe and in Canada.
Performances in 2019 will take them to Slovenia, Switzerland and Germany as well as venues at home including Cadogan Hall.
At first, their performances focused on early music but gradually they have extended their repertoire to include music from later centuries right up until today. The Consorts’ annual Composition Competition this year attracted a staggering 306 entries from around the world.
Their first CD for Hyperion, English Motets, was described by Paul Riley writing in BBC Music Magazine in June 2018 as “a glorious treasure trove and an auspicious debut recording”.
It has long been a desire of the Festival directors to have a choral programme that focused on music by the 16thcentury Italian genius
Prince Carlo Gesualdo. His music is known for its intensely expressive language not heard again until the late 19th century.
