Introducing the KARSKI QUARTET based in Brussels
Simon Rowland-Jones first heard the Karski Quartet at the Royal Northern College of Music Chamber Music Festival earlier this year and was deeply impressed by their intense commitment and impassioned playing. We have already invited the Karski Quartet to perform at the 16th NNMF next year, but we couldn't wait for you to hear them, and meet them, in advance!
They will be playing Beethoven's String Quartet in A minor, Op.132, and Simon Rowland-Jones' 3rd quartet, composed while he was in the middle of working on a new edition of the string quartets of Joseph Haydn.
About the Karski Quartet
The members of the Karski Quartet studied at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels and formed the quartet after they had met at the 2018 Resonances Festival Academy where they were awarded the Grand Prix, a prize for alumni of the Royal Conservatory in Brussels. Three of its members (violins and cello) are from Poland and the viola player is from Belgium. They now attend the String Quartet Studio at the Royal Northern College of Music and study there with with Donald Grant of the Elias String Quartet, David Waterman of the Endellion String Quartet and Simon Rowland-Jones.
They will also study at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels with members of the Artemis Quartet.
They have a busy concert schedule with performances in Belgium, the UK and other countries.
They take their name from the Polish resistance hero, Jan Karski (1914 Lodz – 2000 Washington DC). Karski received many honours and decorations and later became a naturalised American citizen. He taught at Georgetown University.
Drinks and canapés will be served after the concert.
BOOKING There is a nominal fee of £10 per head.
