To open the 15th NNMF we welcome two young and talented string quartets, the all-Italian Quartetto Echos from Turin, and the Celia String Quartet, an Italian/German/British quartet from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
The Quartetto Echos has been playing together since 2013 and has already given concerts throughout Italy. It has taken part in masterclasses with Lukas Hagen, Oliver Wille,András Schiff,Quartetto di Cremona, Ezio Bosso, and Simon Rowland-Jones, and is currently working with the Belcea Quartet at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. The Celia String Quartet came together at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2017 and has performed at Wigmore Hall. Recipients of the St James Chamber Music Prize, they have participated in masterclasses with theTakács and Danish Quartets. The Celia String Quartet is mentored by Simon Rowland-Jones and Jacqueline Ross, and has been praised for its “stylistic awareness with a strong identity.”
Two great quartets are on the menu for their first concert, Mozart’s well-known ‘Dissonance’ K.464 and Debussy’s only quar tet. Full of exotic scales, unconventional harmonies, rhythmic vitality and poetic subtlety, his Op.10 is a work of genius.
