7 PM ST. MARY’S CHURCH, SOUTH CREAKE
MELVYN TAN piano
BRAHMS Sonata in F# Minor, Op.2
Clara SCHUMANN Romances
Robert SCHUMANN Phantasiestücke, Op.111
Each year at NNMF Melvyn Tan can be relied upon to come up with a fabulous solo programme and this one is no exception. The complex feelings between Clara Schumann and Brahms are illustrated here by the fact that Brahms’ 2nd Sonata (Tim Horton plays the1st on Monday 12th) was dedicated to Clara, and Clara Schumann’s Romances Op.21 were dedicated to Brahms. Melvyn’s recent appearances include concerts with the Wiener Akademie Orchester in Vienna, the Australian Haydn Ensemble in Sydney and Canberra, Singapore’s re:Sound Collective, and recitals at the Meiringen Festival in Switzerland, the Hatfield House Festival and the London Piano Festival. “Miroirs”, his new disc of Liszt, Ravel and Scarlatti, is due for release in Spring 2019.
