Marianne Cornetti is internationally recognized as the great Verdi mezzo-soprano of her generation, making the roles of Azucena, Ulrica, Amneris and Eboli her own at La Scala, Milan, Teatro San Carlo, Naples, the Arena di Verona, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Deutsche Oper, Berlin and in Japan. At the Metropolitan Opera she sung the role of Abigaille in Nabucco.
This rare recital will be Marianne's third appearance in Norfolk - she sang at NNMF in 2012 and at Holkham Hall in 2014.
Hermione Lee’s texts for Simon Rowland-Jones’ new song cycle ‘Laughter and Time’ are based on the works of French philosopher Henri Bergson. Hermione Lee will introduce the work at the concert.
